On Saturday, July 25th the Orangeville Roller Girls hosted their “Summer Blockbuster” double header – an action-packed evening of derby amid a hot summer’s evening.
The first bout of the night saw the women of Misfit Militia Roller Derby go against Toronto Men’s Roller Derby’s Toronto Outrage. This co-ed bout was very closely matched between both teams, due in part to the high caliber training of the Misfits, led by CN Power and Misfits captain Renny Rumble, and the competitive season that the Outrage has fostered with other North American MRDA teams. Final score: 178 Misfits, 155 Outrage.
The night’s headliner was a mock-sanctioned WFTDA bout between the Renegade Derby Dames’ Striking Vikings (Alliston, ON) and ORG’s A-team Pulp Affliction. While the Striking Vikings came to Orangeville with a competitive spirit, Orangeville took the lead from the first jam and carried it throughout the game, with equally strong defense and offense, however with a full penalty box, saw a very long end to the game where the Vikings put up a 29-point powerjam against Orangeville. Ultimately, Pulp Affliction came out on top with a 307-150 win against the Striking Vikings.
You can catch all the action on Rogers TV. Pulp Affliction will take the month of August off, however have a packed fall schedule where you can catch them playing the Tri-City Roller Derby’s Vicious Dishes in Kitchener-Waterloo on September 19th, and the Wellington Feims and Royal City Brute-Leggers at home in November. Tickets available in advance at Pear Home, Barley Vine Rail Co. and Jody’s Flair For Hair, or at the door.
