“Merchants of Menace” Bout Recap

Saturday, July 4th saw the ORG host their “Merchants of Menace” double header – an action-packed evening of derby with a Shakespearean twist inspired by the robust presence of the theatre in both the host and visiting towns.
The first bout of the night saw the Toronto Outrage men’s roller derby team take on the Chicago Bruise Brothers, who chose to spend their Independence Day weekend visiting Orangeville and going to battle against the boys in blue and white. Bolstered by a strong jammer rotation and a cohesive blocking line, the Outrage kept a 2-1 point ratio over the Bruise Brothers for the majority of the game. This season has seen both their skating skills and their track awareness improve, in part due to some tough matchups, including serious contenders New Jersey and Montreal. Final score: 222 Outrage, 130 Bruise Brothers.
The headliner bout of the night was one between the Stratford Decapulettes and ORG’s B-team the Fox Force Five, bolstered by some of the Bombshell Battalion from neighbouring league the Renegade Derby Dames in Alliston. The Decapulettes, with some help from skaters from London and Woodstock, showed a strong presence on the track, with quick off the line jammers and good pack awareness. In a back and forth bout that saw the Foxes sneak up on their lead more than once, the Decaps ultimately prevailed with 204 points to the Foxes’ 103.
You can catch all the action on Rogers TV and if you’re itching for more live derby, head to the OAS July 25th when the Toronto Outrage will be back, taking on Alliston’s Misfit Militia, while Alliston’s Striking Vikings will be on hand to challenge Orangeville’s Pulp Affliction. Tickets available in advance at Pear Home or at the door.
