As 2015 winds down, the Orangeville Roller Girls would like to send up a huge thank you to all of our community partners who made this year such a successful one for central Ontario roller derby.
The ORG rounded off their most exciting season to date with a nail biter bout between the Pulp Affliction and Guelph’s Royal City Rollergirls on November 28th. The teams traded points back and forth in what was a very fast-paced and physical game, with Royal City pulling ahead in the final moments to cinch a 183-144 victory. This year also saw Orangeville host its very own co-ed tournament, as well as take on teams from Toronto, Kingston, Waterloo, and Alliston. The Orangeville Roller Girls also were made a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) apprentice league, moving closer to official membership in the governing body of women’s roller derby.
This fall the Orangeville Roller Girls welcomed 8 new transfer skaters to form ORG’s new Charter Team: Orangeville Roller Girls All-Stars Misfit Militia. This means a more competitive edge for ORG, and a better training ground for the Misfit Militia, already the 3rd ranked Canadian women’s team. With ORG training at the Orangeville fairgrounds four times a week, one can expect that the 2016 season will have even more surprises and successes in store.
As always, the Orangeville Roller Girls would like to extend our sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, referees, and of course our fans, for supporting us and sharing in our love for our town and our sport. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday, and an lovely new year.
